On bbc news tonight Nexus One has been announced as Google's rival to Apple's iPhone, the Blackberry and Nokia's smartphones.

I was supprised to see the global market share figures:

Figures from Gartner suggest that Android has about a 3.5% share of the global smartphone market. By comparison Nokia has a 39% share and Apple 17%.

At over £300 non-contract, can I find an excuse to buy one??

It will be interesting to see how Nexus, which uses Google's Android operating system does over the next year.
